The cam belt/timing belt is an essential component in your vehicle and one that must be maintained. It is responsible for ensuring that valves and pistons move in correct time with one another.

 

Like all parts they wear, but if your timing belt goes, you could be looking at a very expensive repair.  Your engine is at quite serious risk if you do not follow your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations for replacing the timing belt.

 

The replacement cycle can vary between makes and models but is usually dictated by mileage and/or age.  Even if you drive very little during this cycle it is still advisable to replace the belt rather than risk the catastrophic damage that can occur due to a timing belt failing.
